What God Taught Me About Building Barns & The Purpose of Wealth

Today is the fourth day of February, and since it is a new month, I am bringing you a new topic. I hope that the first month of this year brought you clarity and strategies to create the best life for yourself.

This month, I want to touch on something very close to my heart: social impact. If you know my story, you know that I have built wealth but felt God was calling me to more. He led me to develop the Triple X Factor which teaches people how to use their money to build the Kingdom of God.

Today I want to teach you what God taught me about “building barns” and the purpose of wealth. Let 2019 be the year that you actually make a difference for the Kingdom of God.

Building Barns & The Purpose of Wealth

God revealed this to me through His Word, so let’s begin with that.

“Then he spoke a parable to them saying, “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

Luke 12:16-21

Building Barns

God wants you to have barns so you can have an impact on the earth. He wants you to have barns so that you can partner with Him in the earth and all of the mountains of society and culture—for the kingdom’s cause. The reason God wants you to have barns is not so you can eat, drink, and be merry. God wants you to have barns so that you can make a difference.

I want to be clear though. God does want you to be blessed. He wants you to build wealth. He wants you to have some barns. But it’s not about building bigger barns. It’s about prospering in the barns you already have. When it comes time to build bigger barns, that’s where we begin to partner with God in this process of tikkun olam, to bring the mundane up to the holy. That’s God’s purpose for wealth.

The Purpose of Wealth

I believe God has prepared a great capacity for every person on this planet. We each have a purpose on this earth. We also have resources and money out there that God has readied for us. He has a treasure chest of divine connections for each one of us, and the Bible makes it clear that God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34). He will do for one what He will do for another.

“I was put on earth to get rich, to collect the money that already had my name on it, and then give it all away.”

Everything, however, hinges on the last part of this quote: “And then give it all away.” It’s not about heaping wealth upon ourselves, right? It’s not just about us having barns. In Luke 12, we see that it’s okay for us to have some barns, but it’s not okay to build bigger barns. Of course, God wants us to have resources; He wants us to be blessed. But the idea is that we are blessed so that we can be a blessing. (Genesis 12:2)

I hope this post has been as revolutionary for you as it was for me. Leave some of your revelations in the comments below!
