God is able to do abundantly more than we could ever ask or think. However, when you start stepping out in faith, there will be a temptation to fear. You cannot build wealth or start a business without taking risks. As you step out into unfamiliar and uncomfortable territory, you may find yourself asking questions such as:
“What if my investments fail?”
“What if I quit my job to follow where the Holy Spirit is leading me, but I heard Him wrong?”
“What if I go out on a limb and ask that person to mentor me, and they say no?”
“What if I spend the money to scale my business, and then it flops?”
Whatever you do,
Never make a decision out of fear.
This blog will provide direction on how to overcome fear, especially in business. The Bible says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) When you accept this truth, you can move forward in business, finance, and beyond with clarity and confidence.
As you learn how to overcome fear, you will become more free to dive deeper into God’s purposes for your life. Ephesians 3:20 (AMPC) says, “Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams].”
God is inviting you to choose faith over fear. When you do, He will accomplish infinitely beyond your highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams. Isn’t that good news?
How to Overcome Fear & Pursue Purpose in Business:
6 Questions to Ask
These questions will help you recognize self-inflicted limitations and move out of fear. Invite the Holy Spirit into this process. Though these questions might seem simple, you can’t truly answer them alone. The Holy Spirit will reveal you to yourself, from your innermost desires to your most limiting fears.
1. What would I do if I knew I could not fail?
Answering this question first will get you beyond a spirit of fear. Consider– what do you define as failure? What are the risks and opportunities that timidity has held you back from experiencing?
2. What would I do if money was not an obstacle?
I remember when lack of money was a major obstacle in my life, and it felt like I couldn’t do anything. Out of that pain, I pursued financial knowledge and the Holy Spirit began to teach and mentor me. Consider what dreams you’d pursue if money was no object. Then, let that joy set before you motivate you toward financial growth!
3. What matters to me?
Psalms 37:4 says “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” So, what matters to you? If you’re walking with the Lord, those things will be in alignment with His plans for your life. Having a clear picture of what you want is a key step in learning how to overcome fear!
4. What does God want me to do with my life?
This is a big question! Ask God, “What kind of difference do you want me to make with my life?” He may not give you the whole picture at once. However, He will show you the next step (or half-step) you need to take to move forward in His plans for your business. Is there a change that God wants you to make with your time, talent, and treasure today?
5. What am I doing with my life that will live on after I die?
You were meant to leave a legacy and impact the next generation. This question will help you get really honest. Are you living for something bigger than yourself, or are you stagnant because most of your pursuits are self-centered?
6. What do I want my tombstone to say about me?
How do you want to be remembered? Your legacy will transcend your material possessions and career accolades. This fact can help you overcome fear in business and focus on what truly matters. What kind of person do you want others to see you as, and are you living in a way that reflects that?
