7 Books on Business and Leadership to Jumpstart Your Summer Reading List

June is here, and with that comes longer days and warmer weather. It’s the perfect season to wind down in the evening on the back porch or to sit poolside with a good book. My mind has been focusing even more on business and leadership than usual since we have the Kingdom Business Summit coming up in a couple of weeks. It is impossible to run a successful business without good leadership. A good leader fuels the vision and attitude of their company. If you are in a position of leadership or aspire to be in one someday, it’s important to invest in yourself. One of my favorite ways to do that is by reading. With that, I wanted to provide you with recommendations for seven books on business and leadership.

1.Mentor to Millions: Secrets of Success in Business, Relationships, and Beyond by Kevin Harrington and Mark Timm

If I’ve learned anything in life, it’s that God does most of what he wants to do through relationships. This book does a great job of expressing how to cultivate and sustain business relationships. It provides strategies to find good mentors, as well as how to be a good mentor yourself.

2.Managerial Economics: A Problem Solving Approach by Luke M. Froeb and Brian T. McCann

This book was written for MBA students, but it is beneficial to anyone in a business leadership position. It provides a robust understanding of how to diagnose business problems and fix them. This one is a bit more technical, but leading people is inherent to managerial work!

3. Limitless: Upgrade Your Brain, Learn Anything Faster, and Unlock Your Exceptional Life by Jim Kwik

I am currently working my way through this book, and it’s achieving what it sought out to do—expand people’s mindsets. I truly believe that the number one thing that limits people is how small they think in regards to what God wants to do in their life. This book helps people change their mindset, motivation, and methods in order to equip them to accomplish more transformation in their personal lives and businesses.

4. The Promise of Purpose by Karen Conrad

Our WealthBuilders Vice President and entrepreneur Karen Conrad recently came out with a powerful book that will remind you of God’s promises over your life. It is critical that business leaders remember their ‘why’ for doing what they do.  In this book, Karen has an extraordinary way of highlighting the gifts, talents, and grace God has already deposited in you. You will receive strategies for how to find direction in the midst of decisions, how to eliminate fear and dream big, and much more.

5. Sam Walton: Made in America by Sam Walton with John Huey

It’s no secret that Sam Walton, Walmart’s founder, is a business icon. In his memoir, he chronicles the journey of turning a neighborhood dime store into the world’s largest retailer. That undoubtedly takes an incredible caliber of business and leadership skills! I trust that you’ll gain a lot from the insight this book has to offer.

6. Change Your World: How Anyone, Anywhere Can Make a Difference by John Maxwell and Rob Hoskins

If you have a desire to make a difference and want to leave a positive legacy in the world, this book is for you. John Maxwell’s newest creation is bursting with practical advice and will teach you how to identify your cause, become a catalyst for change, and work with others to make a difference, to name a few. I recommend this as one of the top books on business and leadership of 2021. as well as tuning in to hear John Maxwell speak at the Kingdom Business Summit, June 16-18, 2021. 7. The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It by Michael E. Gerber

This is one of my favorite books on business and leadership to date. This book describes the myths that surround starting a small business that, if believed, can ultimately lead to their demise. Gerber walks the reader through every stage of opening a business and highlights the critical distinction between working on your business and working in your business. I recommend that anyone who owns a business or wants to own a business give this book a good read!

Do you have any recommendations? If so, I’d love to read them. Let me know in the comments below.
