With a new month comes a new theme, and for July, we are focusing on change! We have officially passed the halfway mark of the year, and most people have now realized they haven’t kept up with their new year’s resolutions. So, how have you done? One of the top reasons why people don’t keep up with their resolutions is because they don’t truly feel the need to change.

Everyone goes through change, and I believe it is one of the only constants in life. I hope today’s post motivates you to pick yourself and your resolutions back up, or maybe start some new ones! You can finish this year better than you started it. Who’s with me?

4 Reasons to Change

1. The Pain of Staying the Same

People do not like to risk venturing out into the darkness of the unknown, even if the unknown is full of hope, even if what is out there has the potential to improve their lives. Change is risky, but we must learn to take that risk! If you keep doing what you are doing, and you do not change, what will your life look like in 5 years? What about 10 years?

I really want you to visualize it because I want you to feel the pain of staying the same. As they say, “nothing changes if nothing changes.”

2. Raising the Expectation of Yourself

We should be determined to make positive changes in our lives before we arrive at the point where it is the most difficult. For example, if you want to make more money, you need to start doing something about it now – not when the final notices start arriving. Things do not get better automatically, and money does not just drop out of the sky.

You must take the necessary steps to make changes in your life. No matter who or where you are, I know you can change. You have to know you can, too. Raise the expectation of yourself. Believe in yourself. Sometimes, just this simple mindset shift will cause you to change. Then, the accomplishment of change will cause you to raise the expectation of yourself automatically.

3. God’s Calling and Help

The Holy Spirit is God’s agent of change. He will help you to see areas in your life that need improvement. He will also warn you of changes that are going to happen around you so that you can be prepared for them.

God, Himself calls us to change.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

-Romans 12:2

The best part is, He doesn’t just call us to change and the leave us. He promises to help us out.

So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

-Isaiah 41:10

4. The Best is Yet to Come

The final reason you should change is that the best is yet to come.

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.

-Philippians 3:13

You have to trust God that whatever He has before you is better than what you left behind. You can never get where God wants you to go if you won’t leave the place He is calling you from. Be open to change, and trust God through the process.
