Do you want to build a strong business grounded in faith? If so, you need to build it on biblical foundations. In this episode of the WealthBuilders Podcast, “How to Build a Strong Business on Biblical Foundations,” host Karen Conrad Metcalfe is joined by David Lapp, CEO of Blessings of Hope.

David shares the story of how he came to start Blessings of Hope. This nonprofit organization provides food assistance to those in need while persevering through the challenges of starting and running this organization because of God’s divine provision and his faith rooted in the Bible.

Shownotes

  • David Lapp, CEO of Blessings of Hope, grew up in an Amish community and had a limited education, but he always had a heart for helping others.
  • In 2005, he and his brother Aaron were excommunicated from the Amish church for taking the Bible too literally. This led them to start a ministry called Light of Hope Ministries, which focused on counseling and speaking.
  • David and Aaron eventually realized there was a need for food assistance in their community, so they started Blessings of Hope in 2006. They began by giving food out of a three-car garage but quickly outgrew that space.

The Beginning of Blessings of Hope

  • In the early days of Blessings of Hope, they were operating out of a three-car garage. They worked with a limited budget and a small staff, but they were determined to make a difference.

  • David faced challenges, but God provided for them. One of the biggest challenges was finding enough food to distribute.
  • They would often go to grocery stores and ask for donations and go to farms and orchards to pick produce.
  • They realized that many other organizations in their community needed help to provide food to their clients. By creating a warehouse, they could centralize food distribution and make it more efficient.

Growing Blessings of Hope

  • Blessings of Hope now has a warehouse of over 100,000 square feet and distributes food to over 100 organizations in their community.

  • David and his team had some “crazy” ideas, but God has always come through for them. One of the craziest ideas was to start a food truck. They thought it would be a way to reach people who could not come to the warehouse. The food truck was a huge success, and it helped Blessings of Hope to reach even more people in need.
  • It’s important to ask God how to fulfill His plans instead of telling Him how crazy His plans are. God has a way of working things out in ways that we never could have imagined.

Perseverance and Trusting God

  • David has persevered through the challenges of starting and running Blessings of Hope through faith in God and his commitment to helping others. Knowing that God was with him gave him the strength to keep going.
  • It’s important to take things one step at a time and not worry about the future.
  • It is easy to get overwhelmed when we think about all our challenges, but it is essential to focus on the present moment and trust that God will take care of the rest.
