We’ve all heard the saying “vote with your money,” and maybe some of us agree. I bet a lot of us often feel helpless as well. After all, shopping at Amazon is quick, cheap, and easy! When Becky and I were struggling financially, many of these big box stores were our safe havens. However, now that we are blessed enough to have options, we are intentional with our spending habits. This Christmas season, I encourage you to consider how your money reflects your values.

3 Ways to Make Your Money Count

Shop Local and Small

Many small businesses have been forced to close their doors for good due to the economic downturn. This year, instead of buying all your gifts at chains and big corporations, consider small businesses where you might be able to find similar gifts. For example, Colorado has so many local jewelry shops that sell unique, quality items. Since conferences and experiences have been limited this year, consider buying a course or book from your favorite thought leader or teacher. Colorado is also known for our delicious farmers’ markets where you can buy farm-fresh produce from local farmers! You’ll soon be overwhelmed with options once you begin thinking of alternatives.

Align Your Values

Becky and I partner with many organizations, all of which have values and missions we align with. If you are able to this year, consider partnering with an organization you align with as well. This can range from non-profits serving the homeless, international aid, or educational institutions. Tricord Global and WealthBuilders both have legacy partners who help us fulfill our mission of changing the world one village at a time. This is perhaps one of the best ways to make sure your money reflects your values.

Consider Your Impact

The marketplace has increased in size which has created stiffer competition. In turn, this has forced businesses to innovate and create unique value propositions. There are businesses that have a greater focus on social impact, human rights issues, environmental sustainability, and more. Regular products you would normally buy have the potential to create a larger impact. When your shopping, I encourage you to consider the impact of the product you are buying.

Putting greater consideration into the ways we spend allows our money to reflect our values. Which action are you going to take this holiday season? Let me know in the comments below! In addition, I encourage you to consider becoming a WealthBuilders Partner.
