Your attitude determines your success. It can make or break you. If you focus on developing correct attitudes, you will have greater levels of success in your life.

It’s no secret that personal development plays a huge role in positive growth. If you want to achieve your goals and influence the world, you first need to influence yourself. There are numerous ways we can do this as entrepreneurs – reading, learning, listening to podcasts, exercise, healthy eating, and more. However, one the most important ways we can invest in ourselves is by adjusting our attitudes.

Imagine waking up each morning believing that your success was in your control. Yes, I believe that God is the giver of all good gifts – including wealth, success, and goal-achievement. However, we have the responsibility to work hard, pray hard, and invest in ourselves.

This means that your success is ultimately up to you.

With that said, you can see why it’s so important to daily adjust your attitude to be one that promotes excellent personal development. If you don’t take the time to adjust your attitude, it will never change.

Here are 6 attitudes that promote personal development:

1) Accepting responsibility.

You are where you are due to your choices. Accept the responsibility for those choices and make future decisions knowing that you are working like it depends on you.

2) Expecting the best.

Have an attitude that always expects the best thing to happen – and then rejoice when the good things do happen! Give yourself something for to look forward to daily. Positive expectations are more powerful than you may realize.

3) Believing that you are creative.

There is something creative inside every one of us – no matter the personality type, job description, or labels placed by others. Use your creativity for fun and enjoy your projects. Allow creativity to flow regularly, and start believing that YOU are creative.

4) Celebrating that you design your own future.

Don’t waste the energy limiting yourself and your business based on other people’s expectations. Everyone has an opinion. Instead of comparing, have confidence in your own vision. Dream a little. Stretch your imagination.

5) Being an action-taker.

If you don’t take action, none of the dreams and plans for your future will come true. Did you know that 50% of the process of change comes from simply taking action? Be brave and take the first step!

6) Trusting that you can adapt.

If you find that you aren’t enjoying the results in your life and/or business, you can and should change something. Again, remember from earlier, accept responsibility. But don’t get stuck there. After accepting responsibility, make changes and learn to adapt. Flexibility is required in order to succeed.

If you don’t currently have these six attitudes – or struggle to implement positive thinking and change – what can you do about it? I suggest the following three steps.

  1. Breathe. Take a few minutes to assess your attitudes and beliefs about yourself.
  2. Change your perspective. In what areas of life do you need to refresh and/or challenge your thinking?
  3. Feed the good attitude you are beginning to develop.

Remember, one of the best ways to invest in yourself is to daily check your attitude.

Ask yourself: What am I believing about myself? And how am I treating myself, talking to myself, and encouraging myself?

Your attitude is what you believe deep down. So, for things to change, you too must change.
