In the wake of COVID-19, people all over the world are facing very real challenges and the urgency of this crisis has taken over every aspect of many people’s daily lives. People around the world have been confronted with economic hardship, forced to adapt to unplanned routines, and have experienced the physical, emotional, and financial impacts of this pandemic.

In the midst of challenging times, fear can make it difficult to see the path ahead. That’s why we must choose faith over fear during this time. Remember that God is our almighty healer and protector. God invites us to take refuge in Him through prayer. Proverbs 18:10 reads, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.” God’s word is alive, true, and faithful. Together, we can pray that God’s heart of love, mercy, and truth will allow us to handle present difficulties and any that may lie ahead. I’ve put together a list of six prayers we can speak together during this pandemic. Collectively, let’s raise our eyes up to heaven during this time instead of looking down in despair!

How to Pray During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Pray for those experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and their loved ones

God, protect and comfort those suffering from COVID-19 and their loved ones. We release your healing power into their bodies, and thank you for peace and comfort to all those affected by COVID-19. We choose faith over fear, and declare that by Your stripes we are healed and made whole!

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” – Psalm 46:1-3

Pray for medical professionals, grocery store workers, delivery drivers, caregivers, researchers, and anyone who is on the frontlines of the pandemic

Lord, we are tremendously grateful and blessed for those who are working each day to preserve the health and safety of our nation. We ask that you keep them and their families safe and healthy. Thank you for providing strength and protection as they serve others, care for patients, deliver much-needed goods and supplies, and work extended hours to meet the needs of our communities. Thank you for supernatural wisdom and revelation in the areas of research and medicine. We declare you are our provider and protector, and an ever-present help in our time of need.

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” – Psalm 145:18

Pray for the nations and its many leaders who to seek You, Lord, and make decisions that honor You

We pray for the men and women in government and leadership around the world, and ask that you guide their decisions. Father, we ask you to protect and strengthen world leaders committed to the protection and future of our families, communities, and nations. Thank you for giving them strength, wisdom, favor, and faith to serve in their roles of leadership.

“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” – Deuteronomy 31:8

Pray for families and friends who are learning to navigate the new normal

As families face disruptions in their everyday lives, help them to develop new and even healthier ways of living. We ask that you bring comfort to the parents and children who are adjusting to new routines and that you eliminate any fear or anxiety from their minds. Thank you for strengthening marriages, family relationships, and friendships during this time.

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” -Psalm 62:1-2

Pray for workers and business owners to thrive during this time, not just survive

For individuals and families who are facing loss of jobs or income, we thank You for providing for them in their time of need. Inspire those who are able to give to reach out to their community and encourage those around them with compassion, understanding, and faith. We stand against fear and panic and release a spirit of peace. We put our trust in You.

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. – Isaiah 26:3

Pray for an end to the global spread of COVID-19

Lord, as our loving Father filled with goodness and mercy, we know you did not create this virus- this is from the enemy and we stand against it in faith knowing that you are greater than any disease that would try to come against us. You are our Healer- the Prince of peace, and we wholeheartedly secure our trust and hope in You. In the name of Jesus, we come against COVID-19 and command it to go NOW! We release the healing, miraculous power of God across our nation, and declare that Jesus is Lord.

“You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress; my God in whom I trust.’” -Psalm 91:1-2

We ask this all in the name of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
