Having the right frame of mind is crucial if you’re going to enter the world of successful entrepreneurs. In fact, a positive mindset is one of the most important characteristics for you to develop. Mahatma Gandhi said, “Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.” Ultimately, your beliefs influence your destiny.

While entrepreneurs come in all shapes and sizes, here are four statements that you’ll hear successful entrepreneurs saying. These four statements come from having a particular mindset. I believe you can develop this type of mindset. Why not start today?

Four Things Successful Entrepreneurs Say

1. “I’m willing to take a risk.”

Entrepreneurs are always willing to consider the risk involved in a new business venture. If you’re risk averse – or simply not dreaming big enough to involve risk – then I would probably say that you won’t climb the ladder with other successful entrepreneurs. Success is not guaranteed and zeal alone cannot drive you.

Yes, I want you to be excited about your business ideas. Yes, you will need to work hard to master your craft as an entrepreneur. But ultimately, you have to be willing to fail on the road to success and know that taking risks is just part of entrepreneurialism.

2. “I make informed decisions.”

Decision-making is integral to the job description. Should you lease office space? Do you need to hire employees? Are you going to borrow money or utilize your savings? How are you going to advertise? From day one, successful entrepreneurs make decisions. And the decisions only get more involved as time goes on and the business grows. Simply put, great entrepreneurs take charge and make decisions.

Now, this doesn’t mean you need to just make any decision. Remember what the successful entrepreneurs will say: “I make informed decisions.” Proverbs 19:2 says, “Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.” Take your time. Do your research. Make a decision. And don’t forget number one mentioned above.

3. “I can function in multiple roles.”

Of course you will hire assistants and marketing experts and admins as your business grows. But entrepreneurs usually need to be able to juggle many roles, contributing as the head salesperson, bill collector, chief, marketer, etc. You must be able to contribute in whatever means necessary to enhance success for your venture.

An employee may leave for a time or quit unexpectedly. Or you may not have the funds to pay others for a time. If you’re skilled as an entrepreneur and are willing to learn the ropes of the position, your business will thrive through the many possible seasons it will undergo.

Here’s the secret sauce for this blog post: if you’re not skilled in a certain area (let’s pretend it’s marketing), then use some of your early earnings to learn the skill of advertising/marketing. Take an online class. Have coffee with a skilled friend and pick his brain. Do your research. Always be working towards more skill and more knowledge.

4. “I strive to balance work and family life.”

A common mistake for beginning entrepreneurs is to run yourself until you’re exhausted with work. Successful men and women know how to balance work and family life. Successful entrepreneurs also make time for themselves, cultivate other interests, and do not allow work to control every free moment. Create boundaries and see your venture through to success.

This is probably one of the most difficult areas for many entrepreneurs. You see a goal, you’re ambitious and excited, so you chase your dream and leave other important parts of life in the dust. You might even be doing this without realizing it’s happening. I suggest you pause, evaluate, and schedule some time for both yourself and your family/friends. I’ve created a list of 10 ways to make time for yourself and 10 ways to spend time with those you love. Download it for free by signing up at the end of the post!

Entrepreneurial success depends upon your ability to be able to confidently say the statements above. Are you willing to take a risk? Do you make decisions and research them before jumping in? Are you able to function in the different roles involved in your business? And finally, are you spending enough time with your family?
