I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my years working as an entrepreneur, but those have led me to understand what sort of person it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. The following attributes are not all things I innately was. I had to acquire some, while others came naturally to me.

Chances are, you have several of these attributes in you too. Hopefully, this list will also inspire you to develop the whole set! Remember that an entrepreneur is a person who perceives an opportunity and creates an organization to pursue it.

Is Entrepreneurship in Your DNA?

1. Dream

Successful entrepreneurs have a vision of the future and the ability to implement that vision. They are often the idea generators, but it’s important for every entrepreneur to set aside time to dream in general.

2. Decisiveness

Entrepreneurs have the ability to synthesize data quickly and make a decision. At a certain point, the dream process has to end. Let your yes be yes, and your no be no.

It’s okay to wait, and hover over a decision until you’ve figured out a direction. Once you make a decision, though, you can’t look back.

3. Doers

Entrepreneurs move quickly to act on decisions. One of the secrets to success is to act even if it’s wrong. Now, obviously at the time you act, you don’t know it’s wrong, but that’s how you learn.

Just keep trying. Don’t just with both eyes closed, but don’t fail to jump. Take action. Some of the best ideas in the world are still in somebody’s notebook.

4. Determination

Entrepreneurs have a total commitment to the business. They have a don’t-quit attitude. They stand strong and work hard even when things get difficult. Be the kind of entrepreneur that looks at every option and keeps pushing ahead.

5. Dedication

Successful entrepreneurs have a blind ambition to succeed. They have a dedication that exists 24/7. Because entrepreneurs deal with ideas and possibilities so often, they have to be dedicated to the ideas they are pursuing.

Go and make things happen! Success will only come if you are willing to believe, if somewhat blindly, and to keep pushing forward.

6. Devotion

Successful entrepreneurs love what they do. They have passion. So work in an area that pushed your buttons and excites you. Even better, find an area or field that continually excites you. When you find passion, there’s love and joy in what you’re doing.

I love when I’m given the opportunity to teach or consult. That’s one of my highest levels of passion. After a time of trying things out, you’ll be able to identify what you can truly be devoted to.

7. Details

Entrepreneurs know that in order to succeed they need to be involved in every detail of the business. Do not listen to people who tell you to take a step back in the beginning.

Get dirty in every area. You won’t like every area, but you’ve got to learn and get a pulse on your organization.

8. Destiny

Entrepreneurs want to be in charge of their own destiny. They have a strong desire to be independent. You’ve got to have that sense of destiny and what you want in your life. This is what will keep you pushing forward.

9. Dollars

Entrepreneurs know that while money is not the only motivation, they will be rewarded for their efforts if they are successful. For most entrepreneurs in the world, I know it’s often a high motivation.

Interestingly, I notice that new entrepreneurs are dedicated to social issues. The new social entrepreneurs in the world aren’t just concerned about what they can have, but what others can have as well.

10. Distribute

Well-rounded, successful entrepreneurs know that they cannot do it alone. They are willing to share their success with those who help a lot of other people succeed as well. They’re invested in pouring into others and developing a successful, cultural climate!
