With the end of the year in sight, I feel like we’ve turned a corner and a new chapter is upon us. It’s safe to say that these last few months have been filled with abounding blessings and achieved goals. However, I know the pain of trying and failing. I understand the frustration of not reaching set goals. I have been there, too. For this reason, in today’s blog, I want to share with you a few inspirational quotes that will help uplift and motivate you if you feel lost. If your direction in life is faltering, I encourage you to take a minute to revitalize your mind with these three inspiring quotes by successful entrepreneurs.

“I’ve learned that mistakes can often be as good a teacher as success.”
– Jack Welch, chairman and CEO of General Electric

Sometimes your greatest success is right around the corner from your biggest failure. When you dwell on mistakes instead of using them as teachings lessons, you remain in the same place as you started. People look at successful entrepreneurs and wonder why God gave them the opportunity to flourish. What if I told you that God has stored that potential inside of you, too? The overwhelming fear of failure affects us all, none of us are immune to this human feeling. If I can tell you one thing, it’s that you need to learn to expect failure and expect it often.

On the same token, it’s what you decide to do with that failure that will define your future. The next time you’re in a situation where you feel defeated. I want you to use that failure as a stepping stone. In other words, use it as an opportunity to grow. I have failed more times than I like to admit, but I always got back on my feet again. Most importantly, I learned from my mistakes and changed my mindset. Failure is life’s greatest teacher and through my mistakes, I’ve grasped the value of humility, resilience, and compassion.

“Chase the vision, not the money, the money will end up following you.”
-Tony Hsieh, CEO Zappos

Money is a great resource to have, but if money is the only thing you are chasing, then you are in trouble. We have all been there, including myself, where we get caught up in the rat race and the endless cycle of making more money. It’s exhausting and unfulfilling. Yet, I hope you believe me when I say that God wants us to have money, but he also wants us to have a vision for that money.

The vision should ignite your passions and be the reason you want to get up in the morning. Let your hunger to solve a problem or find a meaning to be the drive for your vision. What I mean by this is, find a vision that is not only profitable but creates a solution to a problem. David Briggs and I created Tricord Global because we saw an economic need in developing nations. Our vision not only created a solution but it continues to positively change the lives of people and entire communities. If you are thinking properly, managing correctly, and stewarding honestly, you will naturally begin to attract wealth. This wealth will be a result of passion and purpose. Money matters, but let the vision lead.

“Don’t get distracted. Never tell yourself that you need to be the biggest brand in the whole world. Start by working on what you need at the present moment and then what you need to do tomorrow. So, set yourself manageable targets.” – Jas Bagniewski, Co-Founder of Eve Sleep

So many people quit before they have even started. I call this the “overwhelmed effect,” and the culprit of this negative effect is usually poor planning. The key to success in any business is planning and time management. Did you write that down? If you’re striving for excellence and hoping for growth, you need a clear long-term business plan. I don’t expect you to hash out this plan overnight. Even plans need planning! Start by managing your day to day tasks, once you have your footing there, start working on your Business Model Canvas.

The business model canvas is the secret sauce for businesses and nonprofits. Success is not driven by either the best product or best service, it is driven by the best business model. I’d rather have a C level idea and an A level business model. Your business model should include your vision, your mission, and your strategy. It’s like the story I tell about the elephant in the dark. If you ask three different people to reach out and touch an elephant, the first might say it’s like a hose, the second might say it’s like a rope, and the third might say it’s like a wall. It’s not that any of the three are wrong, they are just touching different parts of the elephant. In business, it’s important to know the whole elephant.

I encourage you to read my other blogs about how to build your own Business Model Canvas.
