As we talk about “Money Mastery,” I want to begin with a verse from the Bible, Matthew 6:24 (NKJV): “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” The NIV makes it even plainer: “…You cannot serve both God and money.”
The obvious truth is that many people serve money even though they never made a conscious choice to do so. I share this verse because people have not learned how to manage their money and therefore they have become a servant to their finances. So Jesus said, “You cannot serve God and money.” Many of us that have a great heart to want to serve God end up serving money by default simply because of our situation.
The goal of this book is to teach you how to break the hold of money over your life so that you can be free to serve God. How awesome would it be to have all you need and, according to 2 Corinthians 9, “to be able to give to every good cause”? That’s a good place to be! So, when we talk about “Money Mastery,” we’re talking about you and I becoming the master of our money as we serve God. Because Jesus made it plain: you cannot serve God and money.
I remember the first time I realized I didn’t have to think about my monthly or annual budget. It was awesome! It’s not that I don’t ever have to manage my money. But I don’t have to think about whether or not I’m going to live or make it from week-to-week or, for that matter, from year-to-year.
I’m going to tell you right now: that is a wonderfully freeing experience. And the best part is that then I have the time to sit down and listen to God—and do what He says!
I have a bit of an announcement to make here. For a while now, the requests that I write another book have been building.
Well. I’ve decided to listen!
Sometime this year, I will be releasing a book I’m calling “Money Mastery.” It will be a compilation of all my teachings on finances and wealth—and yes that is a snippet above. I’ve put myself to a pretty crazy deadline with this book, but that doesn’t mean I’m not treating it with great care! I want this book to be as perfect as it can be. My hope is that it will be exactly what you want and need.
I have just one question for you. I’ve got the outline nailed down, and almost all of the content written. But I want to make sure I cover everything you want to see.
So here’s my question: What are the two most important things I need to cover about mastering money?
It would mean a lot to me if you respond with your answers in the comment section below. Thank you!
I never would have written this book if it weren’t for the people in my life asking me to. Because of that, I really want to dedicate this book to all of you.
Thanks,
Billy Epperhart
Where is the best place to invest? Do you think indexing funds are a good investment?
1.) mindset; how to accept this way of thinking that most of us have never been tought, including what habits/thoughts we need to practice to be fully aware of and adopt this “new” “opposit” way of thinking that we have been accustom to think our whole lives up to the point of reading your book.
2.) james chapter 2, faith without works (action) is dead (nothing). If you could elaborate in your own way on how that is important and tie it into finances. The reason, I believe that many of us are afraid to take the necessary steps (risks) in order for change and God to do amazing things with our finances and resources. A lot of us feel that we have to have “all of our ducks in a row”, everything has to be compelling to the eyes and aligned with our emotions for us to apply new habits and then will feel we have the courage to take the steps that are necessary (take that leap of faith), but only when our eyes (what we see physically in that particular moment) and what are emotions (not heart) our telling us, is when we feel compelled to move, but in reality, He who is greater on the inside of US, is greater than he who is in the “eyes” of the world. We had it in us the whole time, the moment we decided to have Jesus as our master, and serve Him. Stir up the faith and walk it out. Stop soaking, start plowing. Days are limited and evil, we all need to make to most of every opportunity. Eph 5
Thank you for this! Very well thought-out. Bless you.
I’d love to get some ideas on how to start. When the extra money to use to get out of the month to month cycle is limited….where are those available funds best invested? Is it better to pay everything off first and then invest or can some of these investments be started while paying down debt? I’ve heard lots of great investment ideas, but all of them are out of reach right now…trying to figure out how to compile enough available funds to get to the point that more serious investing can be done.
Great thought Allyson, I will keep this in mind as I write!
How to create generational wealth?
What to invest into now? …stocks, real estate, etc
Thanks Estevan! I’ll keep this in mind.
I would like to know the best investment plans for children’s education and retirement.
Also the basics of starting an investment club and ensuring it lasts for a fair period of time.
Thanks Sheila! You’re not the first to mention children’s education. I’ll do my best!
money is just a tool ! It is like a hammer learn to use it and build a home. Don’t learn to use it properly ,mash your finger!
Learn to use money smartly and it will multiply, use money foolishly and it will disappear.
Well put Larry! Thanks for the feedback, I’ll do my best!
Look forward to its release and reading it. Can I get a signed copy – Mr. Green Eggs and Ham? LOL!
Haha, sure thing Jeanne! I’ll try to make it happen.
How do you discern or learn to recognize God showing you funds, assest, finances, trusts, properties, monies, and anything to the like, to be retained (working for you), captured, seized, released, from this world and brought/invested into His kingdom?
And how do I equip myself to move in that gift? Or is it something every Christian can be gifted in? If not, what is the responsibility of those that are; and can carry that out?
And if not, how do I use my gifts to make that happen? No matter the amounts one has or doesn’t have; is it just about serving the Lord, listening and doing, remaining thankful, trusting Him for all things? Hahaha I could go on and on with questions…. They aren’t answers though or are they? If God’s got it all figured out (yes he has) why do I have to figure? Not a fan of figures, formulas, equations or the like. May not have much yet still I am held by Him. I guess helping people recognize and move in that so they are hiring the right people, equipping, and investing in them allowing God to move.
Janet, thanks for the thoughtful response! These are some great questions and things to wrestle with. Thank you for the feedback.
People need to realize that money is a tool and it’s ok to ask God for the tools to do his work. It’s ok for us to have money, just not for money to have us. Also the people who are enslaved to money sometimes are the ones who don’t have enough.
Amen, Thelma! Thanks for the feedback.
