I’ve always had the conviction that it is important to give back to those less fortunate. This is why I started Tricord Global, but I didn’t want to just give a man a fish. I am passionate about teaching men and women to fish so that they can feed themselves for the rest of their lives. My co-founder and close friend, David Briggs, is here today with another story from the field. I am reminded to prepare for my goals and the importance of doing so while reading this. If you are not prepared for a task, it will no go well. Leave us a comment letting us know that you’ve been loving his stories!

Prepare Yourself for Kingdom Impact

Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has turned on the seatbelt sign indicating our decent into Ho Chi Minh City”. The voice over the intercom broke the quiet of the fourteen-hour flight from San Francisco to Vietnam.  “Please make sure that your tray table is put away, and that your seatback is in the upright and locked position. Please return any items that you may have gotten out of your carry on luggage and place them in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of you. Make sure that your seat belts are fastened and prepare yourself for landing…”

I fly thousands of miles a year and I have heard the words of this announcement more times than I can count. However, as I reflect on this flight the two words “prepare yourself” kept rolling over and over in my mind.  I have traveled to over forty-eight countries of the world and been involved in several mission’s seminars and projects. This trip started out like countless others, but I was not prepared for what was about to happen.

As I talk with my peers, those who are involved in some type of Philanthropic, missions, or socioeconomic development work, they are expressing the same observation: The landscape of the global community is changing, and if we are to make a positive impact on the world for the Kingdom of God and truly lift those people in developing countries out of poverty, we are going to have to rethink and change the way we do missions. We must “Prepare ourselves” to become creative, think outside of the box, and engage our efforts to satisfy the unique demands of missions in the 21st century.

I found myself becoming a part of the vision of Tricord Global because it empowered me to accomplish things that have been in my heart for years concerning missions.

So, there we were, Billy and myself, in a van with Chester (Missionary to INDO – CHINA) and leaders of the underground church. We were headed on a four-hour drive to teach a leaders seminar. We were also going to meet with them to discuss establishing a Micro-Financing Program to train and put people in business in order to break the power of poverty over their lives.  The atmosphere was charged with excitement and celebration as the Holy Spirit showed up in a powerful way, and ministered to all that were there at the seminar. We also had powerful discussions around Tricord Global’s partnership to effect true socioeconomic development in their communities and give many of their people the opportunity to start a business and break the spirit of poverty off of their lives.

We all left those meetings “preparing ourselves” to take the next steps. We were preparing to change the face of the way we were doing missions outreach by adding holistic empowerment.

How do you give back? What cause are you moved to invest in?
