This month, I am teaching you all about business as I prepare to speak at Charis Bible College’s annual Kingdom Business Summit. Now, there are lots of events you can go to that will teach you about business, marketing, and the like. However, this event is unique because it teaches you how to use your business for the Kingdom of God.

Some of you understand what that means, but some of you may be confused. You may be thinking, “wait, I thought business and God were separate?” They may be for many people, but I think we underestimate the impact we can and should have as Christians. After all, we don’t change the world by being like it. If you’re like me and you want to use your business to make a difference in the world, even if you don’t know exactly what that looks like, then keep reading!

Why You Should Use Your Business for the Kingdom of God

The Church in Every Mountain

We have thought that everything happens in the local church, yet it’s about the domain of the King coming into our cities and nations. God does this in the end when the earth is renovated. The one thought that should occupy your endgame thinking is: How are you going to occupy the earth until He comes? That’s what He’s left us to do until Jesus returns. We are to do business and impact the cities and nations that we are in until He comes. 

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the Kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

Matthew 9:35-38

Jesus instructed His disciples to go into the world and preach the gospel of the kingdom. If we are His disciples, we need to ask ourselves: “Are we really preaching the gospel of the kingdom? Are we really investing in city and nation transformation?”

Do Business Until I Come

Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God…. Most assuredly I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.

John 3:3-5

Being born again is about entering a beautiful relationship with God, but we cannot disassociate a relationship with God from His kingdom. Relating to God is also about how we see and function in the kingdom. Paul was teaching on the kingdom of God and the Lord Jesus. We have to do both.

But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.

Acts 8:12

These two go hand in hand—the gospel of salvation and the gospel of the kingdom. The truth is that our lives should be about occupying until Jesus comes.

So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’” 

Luke 19:13

We are to do business until Jesus comes back for His kingdom.

God needs businessmen. And artists. And politicians. And musicians. And counselors. And engineers. And doctors. And pastors. God needs us in all areas of the Seven Mountains. God needs Christians who have wealth so we can impact the kingdom through empowering causes. If we are all pastors and missionaries, who will send us?
