In today’s fast-paced world, it is easy to get wrapped up in the rat race. Rapid technological advances can make us forget that many things in life do not happen instantly–they happen in God’s timing. In those moments, it can be challenging to understand and remain patient. We may even start to question God’s goodness and faithfulness.

Regardless of how we feel, the truth is that God’s timing is perfect. We say this statement all the time, to the point that it may feel trite or insignificant. However, what does it truly mean, and how does His timing pertain to building wealth?

What is God’s Timing?

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Verse 11 continues, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

From these verses, we can see that God’s timing exists on two levels: earth and heaven. It’s helpful to think about this paradigm through two different words for time: chronos and kairos.

Earthly time is chronos time (think: chronological). It’s the “season for every activity under the heavens” that’s measured in minutes, hours, days–you get the picture. In the same way that farmers understand seedtime and harvest, understanding God’s hand in chronos time helps us plan our business and financial endeavors.

While Chronos time is quantitative, Kairos time is qualitative. It measures moments. And not just any moment—the right or opportune moment. In the Bible, Kairos is used to describe the appointed time of the purpose of God, such as in Mark 1:15: “’The Kairos has come’, he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!’”

Kairos time is eternal, and it’s why God can accomplish in a couple of months what would take years by human efforts bound by Chronos time. A Kairos moment happens whenever God’s plans disrupt your plans. These are times of opportunity and breakthrough. When you recognize a Kairos moment, be prepared to step into it and obey what God calls you to do.

Encouragement to Trust God’s Perfect Timing on Your Wealth-Building Journey

1. God’s Timing is Patient

It can be tempting to trust in get-rich-quick schemes, but God’s timing doesn’t work that way. Proverbs 13:11-12 (NLT) says,

“Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears;

wealth from hard work grows over time.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick,

but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.”

You may feel like your hard work is never going to pay off, but take heart– building wealth with God can be slow, but it will always be fruitful in the long run. Don’t let your hope get deferred. Instead, trust God’s perfect timing and know that God will honor your hard work and fulfill your dreams.

2. God’s Timing Isn’t Limited by Your Age

Success is not tied to a specific age. Some people reach their catalytic moment early in life, while others step into it later. Regardless of the timing, God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Consider these examples from Scripture:

  • Abraham waited 25 years for the son God had promised him.
  • Moses spent 40 years in the wilderness before leading the Israelites out of Egypt.
  • David waited 15 years after being anointed before becoming king of Israel.
  • Joseph endured 13 years in slavery and prison before rising to become the second most powerful man in Egypt.
  • Esther waited until the perfect moment to approach the king and save her people from genocide.

These heroes of the faith trusted God’s timing, even when His plans were unclear. They continued to pray, trust, and obey Him. In the end, God blessed their faithfulness and used them to accomplish His purposes.

3. God’s Timing Cultivates Character

Wealth is not something to be chased. Instead, it is something God entrusts to those who are ready. Psalm 105:19 (NLT) says,

“Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the LORD tested Joseph’s character.”

Oftentimes, we hyper-focus on what we want God to do when He is more concerned with who He’s shaping us to be.

Let’s take your wealth building journey, for example. As you learn and grow, God is shaping you into the kind of person who can steward wealth wisely. Character development is a vital part of the process. Integrity, humility, and stewardship prepare you to handle God’s blessings in a way that honors Him and benefits others.

When you focus on becoming a person of character, wealth will be attracted to you as a byproduct of your faithfulness.

4. God’s Timing is Seasonal

Stewardship is not just about character; it’s also about capacity. God’s timing for wealth-building is often tied to your ability to manage what He has already given you.

Every season in life carries a specific purpose. Just as there is a time for sowing and a time for harvest, the same principle applies to building wealth. Your current financial season might be one of preparation, learning, or networking. Embrace the purpose of this season, and trust that God is aligning your efforts with His perfect plan.

5. God’s Timing Overrides Our Plans

We may create detailed plans, but ultimately, it is God who establishes our steps.

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9, NIV)
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)

This doesn’t mean planning is unimportant. Make your plans, but then submit them to God and let Him guide your journey. Trust that His sovereignty provides peace, even when things don’t go as expected.

6. God’s Timing Fulfills His Purpose

God’s timing is not just about you. Rather, He orchestrates time to fulfill His greater plan of redemption for the whole world.

“The LORD is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9, NIV)

While we may wish for quicker results, God’s timing is always perfect. He sees the bigger picture and aligns events to align with His purposes. Trusting His timing allows you to rest in the assurance that He is working all things for His glory and your ultimate good.

How to Prepare for God’s Perfect Timing

We may not always know when God will move, but we can prepare ourselves in the meantime. When we are prepared, we will be more likely to step into Kairos moments when God reveals them to us. Here are a few things you can do to prepare for God’s perfect timing:

  • Pray for wisdom and discernment.  Ask God to give you wisdom and discernment to recognize Kairos moments and obey His leading.
  • Be prepared to step outside of your comfort zone.   Kairos moments often involve stepping outside of our comfort zone and doing something new and different.
  • Be persistent. Keep praying, trusting, and obeying God, and He will eventually bring His plan to pass.
