We live in a world where there is an abundance of information and a scarcity of wisdom. In this content heavy environment, one of the most important things you can have understanding of is the times and seasons.
Whether you are making investing decisions, leading a business, or making a personal move with your family, discerning God’s timing is the key to operating in wisdom. In this blog, we are going to examine a group mentioned in the Bible called The Sons of Issachar and discuss what we can learn from their wisdom.
Who Were The Sons of Issachar?
The Sons of Issachar were from the Tribe of Issachar, the 3rd largest of The 12 Tribes of Israel. The name Issachar means “man of hire” and “he is wages.” The tribe is mentioned in 1 Chronicles 12:23 as part of David’s royal army at Hebron:
“Now these were the numbers of the divisions that were equipped for war, and came to David at Hebron to turn over the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the LORD:
Verse 32 continues:
From the tribe of Issachar, there were 200 leaders of the tribe with their relatives. All these men understood the signs of the times and knew the best course for Israel to take.”
Bible scholar David Guzik concludes that the sons of Issachar were men who supported King Saul until the right time and discerned when it was God’s timing for David to become king. Through interpreting the signs of the times, their leaders were able to provide valuable instruction to Israel. In other words, the Sons of Issachar were operating in a kairos moment.

What is Kairos time?
The ancient Greeks had two words for time—Chronos and Kairos. Chronos refers to measurable, quantitative time. In other words, Chronos is clock time. It’s chronological and can be measured in hours, days, weeks, months…you get the picture.
On the other hand, Kairos time is qualitative. It measures moments. And not just any moment—the right or opportune moment. They are times when conditions are right for the accomplishment of a crucial action.
In the Bible, Kairos is used to describe the appointed time of the purpose of God, such as in Mark 1:15: “’The Kairos has come’, he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!’” In the case of the Sons of Issachar, David taking the throne of Israel was a God-appointed, kairos moment in history.
I like to think about it like this: kairos time is why God can accomplish in a couple of months what would take years by human efforts bound by Chronos time. A Kairos moment happens whenever God’s plans disrupt your plans.
You Can Discern Kairos Moments
In 1 Corinthians 2, the apostle Paul describes how there is certain spiritual wisdom you can only capture in the Spiritual realm. Verse 10 says,
“But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.”
There is hidden revelation that God releases at kairos moments. God wants you to see and experience His reality–that is why He gave us the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16).
So, what in the world does that have to do with building wealth?

Marketplace Movement: A Word on Our Current Times and Seasons
Like the sons of Issachar, you are the right people in the right place at the right time. Just as the Sons of Issachar understood their time and took decisive action, we, too are called to discern the spiritual landscape of our era. As followers of Jesus, our aim should be to align our business, work, and overall goals with what God is doing.
There is a marketplace sound echoing through the earth. God is calling The Body of Christ to be His ambassadors in the business and finance realm. It goes even further than that–many believe we are in the midst of a reformation moment.
A reformation is different from a revival. Revival happens when people get born again in mass quantities. Reformation is when the Body of Christ creates lasting change throughout society as a result of their faith.
I believe God is raising up and waking up an exceedingly great army who will be able to flow in the natural and supernatural (Ezekiel 37). With the mind of Christ, they will have the knowledge of the times and seasons and the wisdom necessary to pull heavenly realities down to earth and reshape every sphere of society with Kingdom influence.
Throughout the Church, prophetic voices are sensing this reformation moment. Lou Engle, a catalyst for prayer and revival movements, boldly declared,
“We are on the verge of another Jesus Movement. God is reforming the Church and sending a new wave of evangelists, missionaries, and reformers into every sphere of society.“
Here are 3 ideas to consider about the times and seasons as they relate to The Church and a potential reformation:
1. A Decentralized, Spirit-Led Movement is Growing
While some traditional structures weaken, fresh expressions of faith are thriving. Across the globe, believers are gathering in homes, cafes, parks, and digital spaces. House churches, micro-churches, and organic movements are exploding in number.
The internet is playing a role much like the printing press did during Martin Luther, the father of the original reformation’s, time. It is democratizing access to teaching, worship, and discipleship. The Spirit of God is empowering ordinary believers to rise up as leaders, teachers, and missionaries right where they are.
The Church is shifting from being a place to a people. It is returning to its roots as a global family of Spirit-filled followers who are committed to living out the Gospel in every sphere of society.
2. A Hunger for Authenticity and Kingdom
There is also a deep hunger for authenticity. Across denominational lines, Christians are re-examining Scripture and yearning for a faith that is rooted in Spirit and truth.
Believers are realizing it’s about the Kingdom of God here and now–not just as a future hope of heaven. The priesthood of all believers, a foundational truth of the first Reformation, is being rediscovered (1 Peter 2:9).
Francis Chan, one of today’s leading voices for Church renewal, says,
“I believe God is calling His people back to a simple, pure devotion to Christ — beyond systems, beyond celebrity, beyond consumerism. A new reformation is needed, and it starts with us returning to the Word and the Spirit.“
N.T. Wright, one of today’s most respected theologians, observes,
“The Western church has focused so much on saving souls for heaven that it has neglected the mission of God’s Kingdom on Earth. A reformation of hope and resurrection life is urgently needed.“
3. Shaking of the Nations
With political instability, economic uncertainty, technological disruption, it can feel like everything that can be shaken is being shaken. Scripture tells us that this is no accident.
Hebrews 12:26–27 reminds us:
“Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens. The words ‘once more’ indicate the removal of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.”
Another key prophetic voice, Kris Valloton, calls this reformation a “Righteous Revolution.” He says, “I believe we are in a season where God is destroying the corrupt systems and not just the corrupt people.”
What remains after the shaking will be the unshakable Kingdom of God. Everything other institution, ideology, and idols will fall.
In Conclusion,
God is calling His people to rise up, discern the times, and build His Kingdom here on earth. Like the Sons of Issachar, we must be ready to move with wisdom and courage in the seasons ahead.
