How would you operate in your business, investments, and personal finances if you truly believed you had more than enough? If you trusted that God would be with you every step of the way?

  • Would you take more risks?
  • Would you start the business that’s been stirring in your heart?
  • Would you stop making financial decisions from a place of fear and lack?
  • Would you take the next step of obedience, even if the results were uncertain?
  • Would you give more generously?

Here’s the reality: many believers spend their lives striving for more money, success, and security without realizing that God has already provided an abundance for them. A revelation of biblical abundance is the key to walking in the freedom, provision, and purpose Jesus already paid for you to have.

In this blog, we will explore:

  • What the Bible says about abundance
  • The difference between an abundance and a scarcity mindset
  • How generosity unlocks abundance
  • How you can walk in biblical abundance in your journey to build wealth
  • 10 Bible verses on abundance

What is Biblical Abundance?

One of my favorite lessons on abundance in the Bible is the feeding of the 5,000 (John 6:1-14). A small boy brought what he had–five loaves and two fish–and Jesus multiplied it far beyond what was needed. On the surface, the little boy’s lunch did not seem sufficient to feed a crowd of thousands. With God, abundance is not about a number. When we surrender what we have and desire to partner with Him, God pours out His favor

When you bring God what you have, He will multiply it beyond anything you could imagine. The basis of biblical abundance is that God has already given you everything you need and more to thrive

In the New Testament, the Greek word for abundance is perissos, and it means:

  • exceeding some number or measure or rank or need
  • over and above, more than is necessary, superadded
  • superior, extraordinary, surpassing, uncommon

Abundance includes the natural and the supernatural. When we seek the Kingdom first, God promises to care for our needs (Matthew 6:31). Deuteronomy 8:18 says He gives us the power to get wealth and be successful (but we have to exercise that power–wealth isn’t going to fall on our heads like ripe cherries off of a tree.)

The abundance we experience in the natural world is a vessel for bringing the supernatural Kingdom of Heaven to earth. Our real abundance rests in the fact that we have direct access to God and can pull heavenly realities into any situation. The Bible says we:

  • Are complete in our union with Christ (Colossians 2:10)
  • Have access to all heavenly treasures and spiritual blessings (Ephesians 1:3)
  • Have the ability to ask God for anything (John 14:13-14)
  • Possess a divine inheritance (Romans 8:17)
  • And so much more!

Andrew Wommack puts it this way:

“Most Christians believe that God can do anything, but many of them don’t believe He has done very much. They live in a constant state of trying to get God to do something. They are begging God to move through revival, healing, prosperity, etc. They run from meeting to meeting, trying to get something from God. But they’ve already got it.”

You already have abundance—exceedingly more than what you need—but you must exercise your faith and choose to walk in it.

Giving: The Key to Unlocking More

Here’s the best part: we have more than enough, so we have more than enough to share. Freely we have received, so freely we can give. The more we give, the more God blesses us so we can continue giving. It’s an endless cycle of abundance!

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 says:

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

How many of us limit our financial impact because we don’t really believe God will bless us abundantly?

Abundance vs. Scarcity Mindset

Here’s a simple way to distinguish between an abundance mindset and a scarcity mindset:

Abundance Mindset: “I have more than enough.”

Scarcity Mindset: “I don’t have enough.”

An abundance mindset produces peace. Someone with an abundance mindset rests in the fact that they have everything they need because Jesus already paid the price. In contrast, a scarcity mindset produces anxiety. Someone with a scarcity mindset scrambles to get more because they don’t trust that God will provide.

You don’t have to work to get anything from God, nor do you have to strive to obtain it in your own strength. You can draw from endless divine reserves and operate by the power of the Holy Spirit!

How to Move from a Scarcity to an Abundance Mindset

Changing your money mindset may seem daunting, but all it takes is a 1/8th of an inch adjustment. As you identify limiting beliefs and scarcity thinking, renew your mind to the Word of God. Replace the lies with biblical truth, and elevate scripture above your feelings. Romans 12:2 in the Phillip’s translations says,

“Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but let God re-mould your minds from within, so that you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good, meets all his demands and moves towards the goal of true maturity.”

Did you catch that? The world will try to squeeze you into its mold when it comes to how you think about your money, and you must resist! The world is caught in a rat race of stress, hurry, and “not enough” thinking. God’s plans for you are to live in the peaceful, present overflow of His abundance.

Realize that you are here to make a difference. The purpose of your money isn’t to give you a comfortable life on earth; its function is to catapult you into Kingdom impact.

To move into an abundance mindset, here are some verses to meditate on throughout your week. (There are countless Bible verses on abundance–these are just a few to help you get started!)

10 Bible Verses on Abundance:

1. John 10:10 (AMPC): The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

2. John 1:16 (NLT): From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.

3. Ephesians 1:3 (KJV): “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”

4. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV): “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

5. Colossians 2:10 (NIV): “And in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.”

6. Ephesians 1:3 (NIV): “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”

7. John 14:13-14 (NIV): “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”

8. Romans 8:17 (NIV): “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

9. Proverbs 3:9-10 (NIV): “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”

10. Deuteronomy 8:18 (NKJV): “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”

More than financial prosperity, the core of biblical abundance is that God has already provided for us in every way. When we embrace an abundance mindset, we experience greater peace, generosity, and capacity to advance the Kingdom through our finances, business, and investments. So, choose to walk in faith and trust He has already given you more than enough!
